原本為期兩年的「工作假期」(working holiday) 變了在長駐在英國工作,皆因享受離家很遠的感覺。

有時候與家人相距遠一點,大家的關係反而會近一點。

阿姑靚湯


每次回香港都會帶很多湯包回來,有空的時候就煮一鍋老火湯,喝上三、四天,希望為英國乾燥的天氣帶來點點滋潤。

聽說用雞比較燥熱,不過「煲湯豬」難求,很多時候也要從權喝雞湯,看到合用的豬肉也會買下作儲備。

因為在超級市場大多只見到豬扒,或是連皮作烤焗用的豬髀,用來熬湯太肥膩;瘦一點的肋骨又不是處處有售,看到有「豬肩膊」(pork shoulder),看來沒太多肥肉,就買了來作代替品。

朋友教我一個儲存肉類的好辦法:因為在超市買回來的肉份量不少,一個人不易一次吃完,原盒放在冰箱又佔去不少空間,所以購物時不妨在蔬果部多拿幾個用來盛蔬果的透明膠袋,一次沒煮掉的肉類分小份的放進膠袋,要用到時才分批拿出,棄掉了膠盒冰箱就能存放更多食物。

這些膠袋既是免費任取,回到家就不必用到要錢買的保鮮紙;分小份地雪藏如免治牛肉等冰凍了不易切開的肉類,就不怕下次取出冰箱後怕肉壞掉所以要一次過煮熟,真是十分聰明的方法!

這個方法在北京時...大部份北京人都是先買一大塊肉..再將肉切成小塊..用保鮮紙包好..放入冰格...每次按需要取用...

Hi there,

i'm coming to london as a working holiday maker in january, am quite worried about the accommodation when i arrive. wondering if you could give me some advice. did you stay in a hostel when u first arrived? any cheap but nice hostels you would recommend? is it a good idea to look for a shared flat before coming to london?

Hi Peggy,

Welcome to London!

I would recommend you to book / stay in hostel first. Sharing a flat needs commitment & its not much cheaper than a cheap hostel.

I was planned to stay in a hostel for few weeks / a month but at the end I stay there for 3 months until I found a job and know where's better (easy transport to work, safe etc) to live.

Some reader stayed with this chain and found them very well priced / managed.
